Stand of the Sun, Special Edition for Solutions House
Stand of the Sun is an artistic response to academic research on human experiences of how we live in ever-hotter cities. This specially adapted excerpt offers a bespoke, dynamic introduction to the larger interdisciplinary work - one that asks us to feel the relationship between human systems and the natural world, not just understand it.
Blending live dance, an original musical score and immersive video design, the performance brings together movement, sound and visual storytelling to create an embodied encounter between human and sun - carrying audiences from a cosmic perspective into the lived reality of the modern metropolis.
Originally staged with a full live band, vocalists and sculptural installation, this version has been reimagined specifically for Solutions House. It provides an opportunity to consider how we respond to lived experiences of the climate crisis, the role of the arts in confronting global heating, and ways in which academic research can be creatively disseminated.
The performance will be followed by a Q&A session between research and interdisciplinary artist, Bryony Ella, and Dr Kara Schlichting, an urban historian and investigator on the multi-disciplinary research project Melting Metropolis. Discussion will take in the process and impact of long term collaborations between academics and artists, and the design of modern day public realm rituals for a time of climate change.
Speakers and performers include:
